Discover Hälsingland's

Wild Clays

An introductory course on wild clays from Hälsingland in Fågelsjö, Sweden.

Traveling through the landscape of Hälsingland, you can find several locations where natural clay occurs. They were deposited during the last ice age, 10.000 years ago, when glaciers transported large amounts of minerals. Some consist of raw clay minerals mixed with stones, sands and organics. Others are pure clay minerals. I have been gathering and researching these local, raw clay minerals and their properties in ceramics.

During this course I will introduce you to the world of wild clays and share my knowledge and research with you. I will take you through the process of making clay by using recipes that I developed, for example by adding small amounts of other natural materials to the clay. We will work with wild clays from Edsbyn, Delsbo and Ljusdal.

You can choose to participate in a second course day where we work with our clay, using different ceramic techniques and crafting objects like for example tiles, cups or bowls.

The course takes place in my ceramics workshop, located in Fågelsjö, Orsa Finnmark.
